Lively Technical College recently hosted a welding competition for high school students and students dual enrolled in area technical institutions. The competition was held for the first time in 2023. As the reigning champions, Wewahitchka High School (WHS) was invited to defend their title and once again left with the championship belt. WHS Welding Instructor, Eddie Price, took a team of five and two alternates to the competition. Caleb Cooper took an individual Second Place and Blaize Davis took an individual Fifth Place. Collectively, however, the team accrued enough points to win the overall competition for the second consecutive year and were awarded custody of the highly-coveted championship belt to display at their home school until next year’s competition. Chances for future competitions is very promising as only Cooper is a senior; all other team members are currently sophomores. The students and their instructors were recognized Tuesday, May 7 at a meeting of the Gulf County School Board.
